Police respond to major train incident in England

A passenger train travelling through Cambridgeshire in eastern England became the scene of a serious violent attack on Saturday evening. Several people were stabbed, leaving at least nine victims in a critical condition, according to early police assessments.

The incident occurred on a busy rail connection between Doncaster and London King’s Cross, roughly 100 kilometres north of the UK capital. British Transport Police closed Huntingdon station and halted service on the route as officers secured the area and coordinated medical support.

Two suspects taken into custody

A large number of officers — including specialised units with anti-terror expertise — were dispatched to the scene. Authorities confirmed that two men were arrested in connection with the attack.
Official statements emphasise that the motive remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.

Panic among passengers

Travellers described the sudden shift from a routine evening commute to a terrifying situation. Reports indicate that passengers rushed away from the violence, with some seeking shelter in confined areas of the train.

Several passengers intervened to help protect others. One person suffered injuries while assisting a younger traveller, according to those present. Witnesses attempted first aid until emergency responders arrived. The entire situation, while lasting only minutes, left a lasting impression on those on board.

Station closures and transport disruption

Police cordoned off surrounding streets and urged travellers to avoid the area. Trains were suspended, and operators warned that disruptions could continue well into Sunday.

The national railway network issued public guidance advising customers to postpone travel on the affected routes while the investigation continues.

UK leadership responds

Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his concern shortly after the news emerged, acknowledging the distress caused and praising emergency teams for their rapid efforts. Authorities have classified the event as a “major incident”, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

Investigation continues

Forensic specialists and detectives are working to establish how the attack unfolded, whether the two suspects acted alone, and what triggered the sudden violence. Updates are expected once police complete their initial analysis and review surveillance and witness accounts.
