Which industries are hiring the most? Germany’s job market is evolving rapidly, with some positions seeing significant growth over the past three years….

A new report by LinkedIn, titled “Jobs in Trend 2025,” reveals the most in-demand roles that have surged in popularity among German employers.

To compile the list, LinkedIn’s economic data team analyzed millions of job transitions between January 1, 2022, and July 31, 2024. The study excluded internships, voluntary roles, and student jobs to focus solely on long-term career trends.

Germany’s most in-demand jobs

According to the study, the #1 fastest-growing job in Germany is Energy Manager (also referred to as Energy Specialist or Energy Consultant).

This reflects Germany’s push toward sustainability and energy efficiency, as companies seek professionals who can optimize energy consumption and meet climate goals.

The second most in-demand role is Business Process Owner, responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing corporate processes to align with business objectives.

Ranking third is Employer Branding Manager, a role focused on enhancing company reputation to attract and retain top talent.

Male-dominated vs. female-dominated roles

The LinkedIn study also analyzed gender distribution across the fastest-growing positions.

Male-dominated fields:

  • Over 80% of roles in Energy Management, AI Development, Cybersecurity, and Software Development are filled by men.
  • 79% of Supplier Quality Engineer roles and 59% of Business Process Owner positions are also held by men.

Female-dominated fields:

  • 87% of Human Resources Development roles are occupied by women.
  • 86% of Employer Branding Managers and 61% of Travel Consultants and Sustainability Managers are women.

Germany’s ongoing labor shortage

Despite rising demand for tech and corporate roles, Germany continues to face a severe labor shortage across multiple industries.

Sectors most affected include:

  • Construction
  • Education & childcare
  • Social work & elderly care
  • Healthcare & nursing
  • IT & cybersecurity

While the German government has introduced programs like the Chancenkarte to attract foreign talent, economists warn that without more skilled migrants, economic growth could stall.

The German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) predicts that 4.7 million workers will exit the workforce between 2024 and 2028 due to baby boomer retirements.

To prevent economic stagnation, Germany needs to attract 400,000 foreign workers annually.
