A serious accident occurred in Munich’s Hadern district on Friday morning, October 24, when a 14-year-old student was struck by an ambulance that was on an emergency call. The incident happened shortly after 7:20 a.m. on Waldwiesenstraße, near the junction with Drozzaweg.
According to Munich police, a 25-year-old paramedic was driving the ambulance outbound along Waldwiesenstraße. The vehicle was part of an active emergency convoy, using both blue lights and sirens. Ahead of the ambulance was an emergency doctor’s car, followed by a police vehicle behind it.
Accident near pedestrian crossing zone
The intersection is located roughly 400 meters south of the A96 motorway. As the convoy passed a pedestrian refuge area in the middle of the road, the girl — a Munich resident — suddenly stepped off the island just after the doctor’s car had passed. She attempted to cross before the approaching ambulance reached her lane.
The driver immediately hit the brakes, but the vehicle could not stop in time. The ambulance struck the teenager head-on, throwing her to the ground.
Injured student taken to hospital
Emergency crews on site quickly provided first aid. The 14-year-old was later transported to a hospital in another ambulance for further treatment. The extent of her injuries has not been disclosed, but officials confirmed she was conscious at the scene.
The paramedic who was driving was not injured, though the ambulance sustained minor damage during the collision.
Traffic police investigating
The Munich Traffic Police have launched an investigation to reconstruct the sequence of events. They will examine whether the warning signals were clearly audible and visible at the time and review possible causes such as limited visibility or distraction.
Police emphasized that the ambulance was operating under emergency conditions and had the right of way, yet all road users must remain alert even when sirens are active.
