A 19-year-old woman from Munich has reported being sexually harassed by an Uber driver on her way home from Oktoberfest over the weekend.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday when the woman got into the vehicle at Theresienhöhe, close to the festival grounds.
According to police, the driver allegedly touched her thigh and face during the ride.
Victim’s quick reaction leads to swift arrest
When the car arrived at her residence, the young woman acted quickly: she photographed the vehicle before getting out.
This evidence enabled police to promptly identify the 41-year-old driver and pursue charges.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect now faces an official complaint of sexual harassment.
Additional violation under transport law
Investigators also discovered a further offense. The driver had offered the passenger a lower fare if she paid cash instead of booking via the Uber app.
This constitutes a violation of Germany’s Passenger Transportation Act, which regulates ride-hailing services and fare payments.
As a result, the man has been charged with both sexual harassment and unlawful operation under transport regulations.
Police urge vigilance during festival season
Munich police stressed the importance of vigilance when using ride-hailing services, particularly during Oktoberfest, when thousands of visitors rely on taxis and app-based rides late at night.
Officials encourage passengers to always pay via official platforms, avoid cash agreements, and report any misconduct immediately.
