Passengers travelling in southern Bavaria should prepare for timetable changes and cancellations in October. Construction work by Deutsche Bahn and the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) will affect several regional and cross-border routes, particularly between Munich, Rosenheim and Salzburg.
Night-time changes on the Chiemgau-Inntal network
According to BRB, from 7 to 9 October some services on the Chiemgau-Inntal line will skip Munich East station. Further timetable adjustments are expected on multiple nights throughout the month.
On the night of 12–13 October, a section between Traunstein and Salzburg Hauptbahnhof will be closed, with trains diverted or cancelled.
DB InfraGO AG, responsible for track infrastructure, will carry out the works overnight to reduce daytime disruption.
Longer closures and replacement services
Beyond the night works, passengers must also prepare for longer restrictions.
A stretch of the Rottalbahn near Passau will be fully closed from 3 October until 1 December, with Deutsche Bahn arranging replacement bus services.
The closure is part of a modernization project aimed at strengthening the region’s railway infrastructure for the future.
What passengers should expect
- Temporary station closures (e.g. Munich East on selected nights)
- Cancelled services between Traunstein and Salzburg on 12–13 October
- Replacement buses on the Passau–Rottalbahn route until December
- Extended travel times on affected lines
- Travelers are advised to check real-time timetables before departure and allow extra time for connections.
