As Munich steps into the Advent season, a cherished local tradition returns to bring joy to older residents and their families. The AWO Föhrenpark will once again transform its garden into a festive winter world, offering five afternoons of Christmas atmosphere, handcrafted gifts and warm seasonal treats. According to a statement from AWO, the event will take place from Monday, 8 December to Friday, 12 December 2025.

The Christmas market, held at the AWO Senioren- & Pflegeheim in Lincolnstraße 82, opens daily from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Since its launch in 2021, the event has become a highlight of the pre-Christmas period, drawing not only residents but also neighbours, relatives and visitors from the surrounding community. Its focus is simple: creating a place where people can enjoy a peaceful, welcoming festive setting away from the bustle of the city’s large markets.

A cosy Christmas experience in the heart of Munich

Visitors can expect a series of lovingly decorated huts arranged throughout the garden, each offering a variety of treats and handcrafted items. The culinary selection ranges from savoury snacks to classic sweet specialities of the season. Hot drinks such as mulled wine and punch round out the experience, providing warmth in the cool December air.

A small Christmas bazaar invites guests to browse handmade gifts created by care assistants and the well-known “Stricklieseln,” a knitting group at the home. Their work has become one of the market’s most appreciated elements, reflecting the personal dedication behind the event.

To ensure comfort regardless of weather, the grounds are equipped with heating lamps and an open pavilion, allowing visitors to relax with food and drinks in a sheltered festive atmosphere.

Festive decorations and gentle Christmas music

The entire venue is decorated with greenery, lights and subtle Christmas ornaments, creating an inviting space that feels both intimate and traditional. Soft seasonal music accompanies the market, adding to the tranquil and nostalgic charm that many guests look forward to each year.

According to AWO, the market’s success in previous years shows how important community-driven celebrations are for residents in care homes. The organisation notes that the smiles on the faces of visitors and residents are “the greatest reward,” underscoring the emotional value such events bring to those living in assisted care.

A tradition that grows stronger each year

The AWO Föhrenpark Christmas market has steadily become an integral part of Munich’s Advent landscape. By focusing on togetherness, warmth and accessibility, the event offers a unique alternative to the city’s larger, more commercial Christmas markets. For many families, it has evolved into a beloved annual tradition that adds a personal and heartfelt note to the season.

As the festive days approach, organisers expect strong interest once again—proof that even small, community-focused events can create lasting memories and bring people closer during one of the most meaningful times of the year.
