Golden October in Munich: Sunshine, warm days – and a sudden chill ahead

Munich residents can look forward to a few more days of genuine “golden autumn” weather before colder air sweeps across Bavaria.

After a series of foggy mornings and crisp evenings, the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) expects mild sunshine to dominate the upcoming days — perfect for strolls through city parks or weekend trips to the Alps.

Yesterday already brought a taste of autumn’s best side: chilly early hours quickly gave way to bright sunshine, and many locals swapped jackets for T-shirts by noon.

In cafés, terraces, and beer gardens across the city, Munich’s residents savored the warmth with coffees — or even an Aperol Spritz or two — in hand.

High Pressure Over the Atlantic Brings Stable Conditions

According to the DWD, the pleasant conditions are linked to a high-pressure system stretching from the eastern Atlantic toward central Europe.

“We’re currently under the influence of a weak northwesterly flow that brings only minor disturbances,” meteorologists explained. “Following that, stable high pressure will prevail over Bavaria.”

The forecast for Friday calls for fog and low clouds in the morning, giving way to partly cloudy but mostly dry conditions later in the day.

Sunshine will be more frequent near the Alps and in higher elevations such as the Bavarian Forest.

Perfect Weekend Weather for Munich

For Friday and Saturday, the outlook remains bright: temperatures around 15 °C and calm winds will make for ideal autumn outings — whether for a walk along the Isar, a cycling tour through the Englischer Garten, or a day trip to Lake Starnberg.

Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to enjoy these final mild days, as forecasts show a significant drop in temperatures early next week.

Frosty Nights on the Horizon

From Monday onward, meteorologists expect a sharp cooling trend.

Nighttime temperatures could fall into single digits, and daytime highs will likely remain below 10 °C.

The DWD warns that early morning frost may occur in open areas, especially around southern Bavaria and rural zones near Freising and Rosenheim.

While the upcoming cold spell may mark the start of the darker season, it also signals the slow transition toward winter — a familiar rhythm for Munich, where warm October sunlight often gives way to chilly November air almost overnight.

Bavaria’s Golden Glow — While It Lasts

For now, however, Munich can still enjoy the last golden shimmer of autumn.

The trees in the English Garden and along the Isar River are turning to deep orange and red, offering perfect photo opportunities before the first frosty mornings arrive.

Meteorologists expect this mild spell to hold through the weekend — a brief but beautiful reminder of how stunning Bavaria can be in October.
