Munich’s world-famous Oktoberfest attracts millions of visitors every year—and with it comes an increased need for public safety.

To ensure security during the festival, the Federal Police have issued a general order (Allgemeinverfügung) covering the period from September 20, 2025, 6:00 a.m. until October 6, 2025, 6:00 a.m.

The order applies to Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof), Munich East (Ostbahnhof), Munich Pasing, and the S-Bahn stations at Hackerbrücke and Hauptbahnhof.

What is prohibited?

Throughout the festival, it is strictly forbidden to carry:

  • Firearms and blank guns
  • Bladed weapons such as knives, daggers, or swords
  • Striking and stabbing weapons
  • Any dangerous tools that could be used for violence

Scope of the ban

The restriction applies to the entire station buildings and their facilities, including concourses, tunnels, platforms, lockers, upper and lower levels, and all public access areas. The entrances and exits of the affected S-Bahn stations are also included.

Why the ban is in place

The Federal Police emphasize that the aim is to prevent violent offenses and to protect both passengers and police officers. Officers will be present in large numbers to enforce the order.

What happens if you break the rules?

Anyone caught carrying prohibited items faces immediate confiscation of the object.

Additional measures may include:

  • Fines or compulsory payments,
  • Criminal or administrative proceedings under German weapons law,
  • A temporary ban from the station or even removal from the premises.

With this regulation, authorities aim to minimize risks and ensure that Oktoberfest visitors and travelers alike can enjoy a safe and secure experience in Munich.
