A serious accident shook Munich’s Trudering district on Friday afternoon, when a construction crane weighing several tons suddenly toppled over.
The crane collapsed directly onto the street, missing a residential house by only about four meters. Authorities say that if it had fallen slightly differently, the outcome could have been catastrophic.
Damage but no injuries reported
During its fall, the crane grazed the roof and garage of a nearby property and damaged an overhead power line.
Police and firefighters quickly secured the area, deploying a large emergency response team.
While the extent of the property damage is still being assessed, officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
A police spokesperson described the situation as “a stroke of luck,” noting that it was a miracle no one was harmed.
Eyewitnesses describe dramatic moments
The accident occurred around 5 p.m., and residents in the area reported hearing a loud crash. Local eyewitnesses described tense moments as the crane came down.
One neighbor said he initially thought it was fireworks: “That was a huge bang. I immediately rushed to protect my dog and checked on my neighbors.”
Another resident recalled watching the crane’s final tilt from his window before stepping away, fearing debris could hit the building.
Concerns about crane stability
Residents also revealed that they had felt uneasy about the crane’s presence for months. According to one local, the crane often swayed noticeably during windy conditions.
Police are now investigating why the crane, which had been in place since April, suddenly collapsed after standing for several months without issues.

The fire brigade dismantled the crane piece by piece and cleared the road late Friday evening.
