Canva suffers worldwide outage amid major Amazon Web Services disruption. Popular design and presentation platform Canva is facing a major outage, leaving millions of users unable to access their projects, export designs, or log in. The incident coincides with a widespread Amazon Web Services (AWS) failure that has also disrupted global tech platforms including Snapchat, Roblox, Asana, and Coinbase.

According to monitoring site DownDetector, more than 10 000 user reports were logged at the outage’s peak, citing app crashes, server connection failures, and download errors. In its latest update, Canva acknowledged that “users may encounter issues with accessing or using Canva,” confirming that its engineering team is working closely with its cloud provider to restore normal functionality.

AWS failure causes ripple effect across global tech ecosystem

At the core of today’s disruption lies the US-EAST-1 AWS region, one of Amazon’s largest data hubs. AWS confirmed “significantly increased error rates and latencies,” affecting multiple hosted services. This triggered a domino effect that temporarily crippled cloud-dependent platforms worldwide.

In an official note, Canva wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Not the ideal situation right now, but we’re working on it. You can check canvastatus.com for updates. We’ll keep you posted!”

The company’s status page recorded continuous updates throughout the day, shifting from “Investigating” to “Identified,” citing a major issue with its underlying cloud provider.

Users voice frustration — but also humour

As reports spread, social-media users flooded X with comments ranging from frustration to humour. Many marketing and social-media managers joked about being “unable to design a single Instagram post,” while others pointed out that Canva’s outages “are becoming all too familiar.”

Some professionals in digital marketing noted that even brief downtime can derail content calendars, especially for teams relying on Canva Pro or Canva Teams for daily campaign production.

Global impact and regional distribution

The outage, which began around 08:00 GMT (20 October 2025), hit hardest across Europe, the US and India. Roughly 45 % of users experienced crashes, 35 % reported server-connection problems, and 20 % complained of sluggish loading or export delays.

For businesses and creators in Germany and Bavaria, the disruption highlighted how deeply integrated Canva has become in local creative workflows — from marketing agencies to small e-shops and online publications.

Broader context: AWS dependency and resilience

The Canva incident underscores the growing dependence of digital companies on a handful of cloud providers. When AWS stumbles, ripple effects reach every corner of the web. Experts argue that such events call for multi-cloud strategies, regional backups, and clear communication plans to limit operational and reputational damage.

Outlook

As of Monday evening, Canva reported “some signs of recovery in several regions,” though full functionality remained under restoration. Both AWS and Canva engineers are continuing mitigation steps, with a full post-event report expected within the next 48 hours.

For designers, marketers, and educators who rely on the platform daily, the disruption serves as a reminder that even the world’s most popular creative tools are vulnerable to infrastructure failures beyond their control.
