As the rainy season settles over Bavaria, Munich is once again helping cyclists stay safe on the road.
The city’s mobility department is offering free bicycle safety checks throughout October, giving residents the chance to get their bikes ready for the wet and darker months ahead.
What’s included in the free bike service
During each check, technicians adjust brakes and saddles, inspect lights and reflectors, and measure tire pressure.
Minor repairs can often be completed on-site, ensuring that bikes are roadworthy before the next ride.
Even stroller and wheelchair tires can be inflated — part of Munich’s broader effort to promote safe and sustainable mobility for everyone.
When and where the checks take place
Cyclists can drop by without registration at any of the following locations:
- Friday, October 10 – Mangfallplatz (Untergiesing-Harlaching)
- Monday, October 20 – Grüner Markt (Berg am Laim)
- Thursday, October 30 – Laimer Anger
At each site, the city’s experts will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., ready to assist anyone looking to get their bike checked and tuned for free.
Safe cycling through the autumn season
With slippery leaves, wet streets, and shorter daylight hours, autumn can be challenging for cyclists in Munich.
The city’s free safety checks aim to prevent accidents and encourage more people to use their bikes confidently throughout the season.
“Regular maintenance is key to safe cycling,” a spokesperson for the municipal program emphasized.
“Our autumn checks are a quick and easy way to make sure every ride is as safe as possible.”
