Armed robbery on tour bus in Lower Bavaria

It could have been a scene from a thriller: in the early hours of Monday, three armed men stopped and robbed a tour bus on the A93 motorway in Lower Bavaria. According to police in Straubing, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. near the Aiglsbach exit in the district of Kelheim.

The suspects allegedly used light signals to make the driver leave the highway, pretending to conduct a roadside inspection. Once the bus came to a halt, the men — reportedly carrying firearms — demanded that the driver open the doors and told passengers they were conducting a “control.”

Passengers robbed at gunpoint

The situation quickly escalated. Instead of any real inspection, the armed men demanded cash and identification documents from the travelers. The victims complied, handing over their valuables while the robbers kept them at gunpoint. No one was physically harmed, but the passengers were left visibly shaken.

After collecting their loot, the men escaped in a white vehicle, believed to be a VW minibus with a German registration starting with the letters “WR.” They fled in the direction of Munich, and by the time police units reached the scene, the suspects had disappeared.

Police investigation underway

A large-scale manhunt was launched overnight but remained unsuccessful as of Monday morning. The Criminal Police Department in Landshut has taken over the investigation. Authorities are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the white van or noticed suspicious activity near the Aiglsbach exit around the time of the incident.

Police confirmed that none of the passengers were injured, and forensic teams have secured evidence from the site. Investigators are reviewing dashcam footage and motorway surveillance cameras to identify the perpetrators and reconstruct their route.

Appeal for witnesses

Anyone who was traveling on the A93 near Aiglsbach between 03:00 and 04:00 a.m. on Monday and noticed unusual activity — especially a white van driving at high speed or flashing signals — is urged to contact the Landshut Criminal Police immediately.

The shocking incident has sparked public concern in the region, with local authorities describing it as a rare but extremely dangerous form of organized crime.
